  1. HP DeskJet 500C -- Why WordPerfect Hasn't Written a Driver
  2.  
  3. Hewlett-Packard has released a new printer called the HP DeskJet
  4. 500C.  The printer has two modes:  a monochrome mode and a color
  5. graphics mode.  In the monochrome mode, the printer is identical to
  6. an HP DeskJet 500.  When the color ink cartridge is installed, the
  7. printer is a graphics-only printer.  Since WordPerfect does not
  8. rasterize the whole page and send it out as a graphic, it is unable
  9. to support the printer in color.  It was decided between
  10. HP and WPCorp that WP would not ship an HP DeskJet 500C driver in
  11. 5.1 because users may assume color support is available.  Users who
  12. need a driver should use the HP DeskJet 500 driver that currently
  13. ships with WP.

  15. Current shipping products that use the same drivers as WordPerfect
  16. 5.1 (DrawPerfect 1.1, PlanPerfect 5.1, and LetterPerfect 1.0) do
  17. not have the ability to support the printer in the color mode.

  19. Users are welcome to submit enhancement requests via the
  20. WordPerfect BBS by sending a message to Dale Bodily.  Please
  21. include the product name in your request, as well as the
  22. enhancement you would like to be added to a future release of the
  23. product (e.g.  I would like to have a future version of WordPerfect
  24. support color printing for the HP DeskJet 500C printer).
